OUTREACH: MASTER CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS 
Dorothy offers much more than just a performance. Her outreach to the community is impressive. Many presenters take
advantage of her varied background. Tapping into both her theatrical and business background, she provides many
varied, participative, and enlightening master classes and workshops for the homeless, inner city youth organizations,
battered women’s shelters, hospitals, libraries, community colleges, healthcare/eldercare professionals, and universities.

CREATING, DEVELOPING, PRESENTING, AND FINDING AN AUDIENCE FOR A ONE PERSON PLAY
Just as everyone has a novel inside, every performer has a one person play. Getting a one person play from idea to
production presents many challenges, but it is definitely achievable. So many highly creative people forget the
practical aspects of a creative venture. Not all artists are as commercially minded as Pablo Picasso. For example, I
know of a one person playwright who has written almost one hundred plays but very few have ever seen the faces of
an audience. I will utilize and reference my strategy in writing, promoting, and finding audiences with my one person
play and demonstrate clearly, step by step how it can be done.
CREATING AND PERFORMING MULTIPLE CHARACTERS
It is difficult enough to perform one character well. In the theatre, the ultimate challenge is the One Person Play with
multiple characters. If the characters are well written, many faceted, with opportunities for conflict and growth, it is a
lot easier to perform them. Most one person plays are autobiographical but not all performers are good playwrights.
One of the most prevalent mistakes is focusing on the voice and the accent but forgetting character development.
This workshop will help participants focus on the inner life of each character. What is their relationship to themselves, to
the audience, to each other, and to the situation they face? Through improv, demonstration, and exercises learn to
forge strong and memorable moments for each character and for the audience.
